It flies, with the first rays of light

------
Simply wanted a good ol' dragon pic. Got things that make me unhappy about it (but luckily learned alot), however this artwork hung around too long and I'm itching to move on.

Photoshop.

The wing design is amazing, I never saw anything similar, its very original and unique. Its also very inspirational for me. :) The clouds look fine too, they look like some big storm is brewing. Also I like the wing texture and pose.

The wings, back, and horn layout about the head are absolutely positively... spiffy. x3 Very nicely done! :D

Also, the clouds look like clouds. Congratulations! :o *can't draw a cloud to save her own life~*

This is really lovely. I adore the purple/orange contrast (it's one of my absolute favorites, in fact) and you've made it very vivid here.

I agree with the love of the wing design--it's really neat, and what keeps drawing my eye back to the picture again and again. I especially love how you've delineated the bone structure of the nearer wing with the highlights up around up around the wrist. My only real quibble is with the texturing on the nearer wing as it gets closer to the viewer--farther away, the crackled texture looks very natural and adds quite a bit of depth, but up close it detracts from the overall shape and flow. I think the problem is that on the nearer parts of the wing, there's no sense of the texture being attached to any aspect of the wing itself; father away, it looks like veining, but up close, especially on the fifth feather in, I don't get a sense of what's causing the structure of the wing to be like that. It looks too...brushed-on.

Similarly there's a couple of places where I think the scale detailing you've done (which is lovely overall, by the way--I don't have the patience to do that by any stretch of the imagination) is too apparent, mostly on the tail where the sort of midtone shading would lead me to believe I wouldn't be able to see that kind of definition in "real life".

The clouds are really, really good. The only issue I see with them is that the orange-y clouds up top look crispy around the edges--like they're puff-pastry that's been fried until golden-brown. ;) It's a combination of the color and location of the shading around the edges, and the fact the edges bordering on the sky are so sharp, when the internal structure of the clouds isn't quite as crisp. I'd--myself--probably soften the edges somewhat and possibly lighten up the intense shading to try and remove that impression.

Anyhow, I'll stop yapping. XD This is really good, and I'm :+fav:'ing for later ogling.

Those clouds look amazing :] I love them, and I love how you did the dragon' wings. I've never seen wings done like that, they're really unique.

I'm almost nervous to start a digital painting... it just looks like so much work, and such a commitment... lol

Yumyumyum on the lighting (like one of the classical Dutch painters? wowowowow) and the purple is edible. I especially like the detail on her scales and ridged back, and the clouds are just amazing! They look like a photo shot. I'm not sure about the angle of the neck and head though, looks slightly stiff and in my mind the head would come down lower. Beautiful piece though. :)

Those hand-painted textures are so friggin' authentic. Astounding stuff! Props on the clouds too; all the time obviously invested into them paid off immensely.

Excellent, cohesive image overall. Seeing you push yourself brings giddy feelings.

Finally! A dragon and pose I've never seen before! This is awesome stuff, you crazy... person... thing.... o_o As said before, the dragon looks totally 3D, due to that outstretched wing. I love its anatomy, too, I've never seen a wing like that before now. NEAT-O.

very very cool. First point of awesome, its purple, and in my world there are few colors that are as inpiring as such. The contrast of it against the orangy clouds is wonderful, in normal circumstances it would be thought such colors wouldn't work well together but you did a wonderful job pulling it off. Indeed, it helps bring the viewers eye more to the center piece, the dragon. (As well, your ability to paint clouds is AMAZING, I wouldn't mind a tutorial on how you pulled them off if you ever feel inclined to, they have certainly always been a weak point of mine.) The dragon itself has a wonderful 3-D feel to it, you really pulled off a realistic looking image. The way you placed in the shadows, the highlights and details give it real depth to the point you almost want to touch the screen to see if you could reach into it. I am really impressed in how you've pulled that eye trick off. The dragon itself has quite a bit of personality in his stance and face, it seems a bit myschievious, but noble and terrifying all hte same (as all good dragons should be) I like him, if I had the room I wouldn't mind him for a pet :3 (my dream pes have never been very practical) But yes, very impressed with where your skill level is taking you and this image is another reflection on how far you've come. Wonderful work, I thoroughly enjoyed it :3

You're too kind ^_^ Thanks so much! The clouds I just used some photo-refs to see how the colors went together and used varieties of airbrushes and hard brushes in photoshop. Still some nuances I need to work out to get htem optimal but that's the basics.

This is just gorgeous. The radiant sunrise seems almost photo-realistic and complements the lovely sheen on the Dragon's hide. Your choice of colors feed off of each other, give added contrast to an already awesome composition. Much awesomeness. :+fav:

That's so cool. Ditto to all that was adressed above, but I also love the shape of the wings. They give the dragon a sense of strong, alluring beauty, and then it's face is like a betrayle(sp?) of that. I like this a lot!

The original intention involved a confrontation with another critter, hence the pissed-off face. I think the contrast between the hallmark-card vibe and the angry face make me retarded-happy, though, eheheh XD
